Clinical Director 

Mike Atchley, CCM, MA, LPC, AADC

Mike Atchley earned his B.A. Degree from Athens State University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.  He earned his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from the University of North Alabama and served a one-year internship in substance abuse counseling as part of his degree program.  He completed over 3,000 hours of supervision in earning his LPC in July of 2015.   Mike has been a counselor at the Shoals Treatment Center since September of 2012.  He was promoted to Clinical Director in 2016.

Jane Ann Gilbert Magazzu, CCM, MA, LPC, AADC

Mrs. Jane Ann Gilbert Magazzu earned her B.S. Degree from the University of Alabama with a double major in Psychology and English Literature.  She earned her Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from the University of North Alabama.  her internship was in substance abuse and related disorders.  After graduation she was employed as a Coordinator of an Intensive Out Patient Program working with adolescents with substance abuse issues.  She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She has been employed with the Shoals Treatment Center since November of 2012.

Counseling Staff

​Rachel James, CCM, MA, LPC, AADC

Rachel earned her Bachelor or Arts Degree from University of North Alabama.  She went on to earn a Master of Arts Degree in Community Counseling from the University of North Alabama and a Master of Science in Continuing Education Degree in Counseling and Psychology from the University of West Alabama.  Rachel is a Licensed Professional Counselor and an internationally certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  She has 10 years of experience in the counseling field, nine of which are in the field of substance abuse counseling.  She is also an Adjunct Psychology teacher at a local community college.  Rachel rejoined the Shoals Treatment Center team in 2014. 

Stephanie Brewer, MS, CCM, ADC

A graduate of the University of North Alabama, Stephanie earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Criminal Justice from UNA.  She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling.  She was a member of the clinical team at STC from 2000 - 2002, and returned in July of 2013.  

Leanne Jeffreys, Ed.S, LPC, AADC

Leanne graduated with both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of North Alabama in Elementary Education.  She also received a Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education from the University of North Alabama.  Leanne went on to pursue an Education Specialist degree in the field of Counselor Education from the University of Alabama in 2011.  She is a licensed practicing counselor within the state of Alabama and a nationally certified counselor.  Leanne has spent the last ten yeas working in the fields of elementary education, school counseling and community mental health counseling.  For the last year, Leanne has specifically worked in the field of drug and alcohol addiction.  She has been a staff counselor and Prenatal Care Coordinator at Shoals Treatment Center.  

Gabriel Paduganan, LBSW

Gabriel earned his Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Alabama in 2013 after completing coursework in Psychology, Sociology, and Philosophy at Allan Hancock College in California.  He is a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW) through the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.  As a licensed professional, Gabriel has assisted clients through foster care, adoption, child protective services, substance abuse, mental health and behavioral education.  He joined Shoals Treatment Center in 2015 as a staff counselor.    

Jacob Ezell, CCM, LMSW,

Jacob H Ezell is a licensed master social worker (LMSW).  He received his Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama and his Bachelor of Social Work from UNA.  Prior to joining Shoals Treatment Center, Jacob completed a fellowship working with at-risk youth at Free@Be Birmingham Counseling Center.  Previously, Jacob served within the Ombudsman program at the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG).

The clinical staff at Shoals Treatment Center has over 75 years of combined clinical experience.  With the diversity of Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Social Workers, and Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselors, we have the qualifications and the experience you would expect.  The clinical team understands the disease concept of addiction, the current trends in drug and alcohol counseling, as well as the importance of treating the whole individual.
